Adesanya Dropped a Hint For Next Fight: “Champ Squared”
Israel Adesanya Drops A Hint of Next Fight: “Champ Squared”
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s says his next fight is a done deal and the champ dropped a hint.
During an interview with ESPN’s Megan Olivi at UFC Vegas 12 on Saturday, Adesanya revealed that he went to the UFC’s Las Vegas office to meet with UFC president Dana White. Per the champ, they discussed the possibilities and potential opponents for his next fight. The meeting was productive, Adesanya said, because he left the boss’ office with his next fight agreed upon. When Olivi pressed for details, Adesanya said he was going to drop a hint- “Champ Squared”.
Interestingly, Adesanya also tweeted those words on Friday:
Champ squared.

So does that mean that he’s fighting Jan Blachowicz next?
Champ Squared
The only way Adesanya can become “champ squared” is if he wins another title- “champ champ” as what Daniel Cormier popularized. At 185 pounds, the only logical title for him to take is the 205-pound championship which now belongs to Blachowicz. Adesanya has been beefing with Jon Jones, the former champion, in social media so why is he is he insinuating that he’s fighting for a belt next?
During the UFC Vegas 12 interview, Adesanya talked about wars and battles and if you look at the picture, it might be tactically correct to go after Blachowicz first then Jones next. Not that Blachowicz would be an easy prey for the Last Stylebender but if you have to pick between him and Jones, 10 out of 10 fighters would pick to fight the Polish fighter first. And if Adesanya is indeed looking at fighting Jones, it would be great to marinate that fight first.
Jones vacated the title after he had a disagreement with the UFC. Bones wanted a super fight with heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic but after he was spurned by the UFC, he suddenly announced he was taking a hiatus. If Izzy takes the belt from Blachowicz, Jon would be more motivated to get it back.
Polish Power
Blachowicz is the new boss in the 205-pound division. The Polish heavy-hitter was supposed to be Jon Jones’ next title challenger. But with Jones vacating the belt, the UFC let Blachowicz and top contender Dominick Reyes square off for the vacant title at UFC 253 last month.
Fighting as the underdog, Blachowicz obliterated a lackluster Reyes to win the UFC light heavyweight title. The 37-year old Blachowicz is on an impressive tear, winning eight out of his last nine bouts including four straight victories. After his knockout loss to Thiago Santos in February 2019, Blachowicz has defeated Luke Rockhold, Jacare Souza, Corey Anderson, and Reyes in succession.
Blachowicz is 27-8 with eight knockouts and nine wins by submission. The former KSW light heavyweight champion is a balanced fighter who’s picked up five post-fight bonuses in his last seven outings. And yes, he has said that he is willing to welcome Adesanya to the 205-pound division.
I have heard that Israel Adesanya wants to face me next. No problem, If you are ready to fight in March, let’s do this. Prepare for a some fireworks guys 💥👊#LegendaryPolishPower

What About Jones?

During the same interview, Adesanya talked about fighting in the biggest UFC fight ever and if that is what he says, there’s no way that the fight could be against Blachowicz. However, if Jones would be his next fight, that would fit the description that Adesanya was talking about.
The UFC is reviving The Ultimate Fighter series in March 2021. The franchise was halted last year with its ratings continuing to plunge. The only way that the TUF franchise gets back on the map is to get two massive stars who have a bitter rivalry to coach the opposing teams. The first rumor was it could be Khabib and Conor McGregor. But with Nurmagomedov retired, the only star big enough to fit that bill is Jon Jones. And there is no bigger foe for him right now than Adesanya.
According to the oddsmakers, that bout is close to a 50-50 bout. SportsBetting.ag has Jones as a -115 odds on favorite with Adesanya coming back at -105. Imagine Jones vs Adesanya in the TUF finale. Now wouldn’t that be a fight that would restore the TUF franchise back in the rankings?
